Skywatch Friday – Visiting the sky

Its been too long since I visited Ulriken, one of our 7 mountains surrounding my city. Yesterday we had awesome weather, a bit misty but it was time to visit the mountain again. The Area cableway was recently re-openend after a long period of maintainance – now it welcomes tourists to visit a great place with a lovely view. Way below you can see the stadium of our local football team Brann.

27 degrees celcius, the summer is here. Its fun to see tourists enjoying the visit, and its fun to be a tourist in your own town.

ASCAP wants you to pay each time your phone rings

ASCAP (American Society of Composers) has done it again. Now they want us to pay each time our phone rings if we’ve purchased a ringtone. Its like a mini-concert they say – because bypassers can listen to the music too!

ASCAP is known for stopping girl scouts singing at camps : BrandNameBullies.

ASCAP has about 360,000 members, I suggest we start boycotting one by one and see what happends. If everyone does that it will hurt the artists, I know – that is not what I want. But I want them to realize that they are ruining their future by paying organizations like ASCAP to take care of their copyright deals. We need a new music industry where the arists get the money. Are you with me?

Threw beer on Morrissey

Some idiot threw a beer on Morrissey in Oslo yesterday, what is it with people? He stopped the concert and asked if someone could point the idiot out and give him a round. The band stepped offstage and waited. Suddenly a man was pushed towards the scene and then the band came out again and continued the concert. If I were Morrissey I would have left.

Its not the first time people in Oslo do this, I can understand why artists prefer to come to Bergen instead. Heres the reactions of the Morrissey-forum : link.

Touching story

I guess you’ve all read the story but in case not I recommend this one, its an incredibly touching story, and sad. Its about Colby the 10 year old girl who had a rare form of cancer and didn’t have much time left. I am ready to die but not yet she said. She had seen the trailer for Pixar’s Up and wanted to see that first. But because of her illness she couldn’t be moved to the theatre, and the film hadn’t been released on DVD. Her friends called Pixar desperatly and asked for help to grant her last wish. And Pixar did! They flew in an employee with a DVD of Up to her! 7 hours laters she passed away..

Kudos to Pixar, I love these guys.

Here is another story of how great Pixar is : Metafilter

Obama is a murderer

Where will this world end? The group People for the ethical treatment of animals (PETA) reacts on Obamas actions during an interview where he murders a fly, and from the video it looks like he enjoyed it too! Is this the way he have chosen?

Here is more stuff that I bet PETA react on, the gymnast who were put to sleep because she broke a leg :

Why do we suddenly care about Iran?

Before the election the media or the rest of the world couldn’t care less about Iran, we would rather nuke it. But that was before something happened in Iran – president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad fixed the vote. Big deal, that always happened in Iran, so why the difference?

Now the large net-companies like Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, Flickr and other popular services fights over your input on Iran – is it because their eager to spread the word to help Iran or is it to make easy money?

Many feel that the world wide financial crisis is over, is that the reason why sudden people starts to care about others? I’ve read a few discussion where many say that during financial crises people tend to close their receivers and concentrate on surviving – I guess that is a human function we have to accept.

Many youngsters in Iran say that they want to be like the rest of the world, they want democracy. They saw hope in Mir Hussein Mousavi. Is this the reason for the sudden interest in Iran? The world saw hope for a country but then it was crushed by a terrible dictator?

Many say that Mousavi is no better than the sitting president, even Obama thinks that there is not much different between Mousavi and Ahmadinejad.

So why the sudden interest? Is it only because we care? I find it difficult to believe.

Search for “bomb Iran” and check out the results.

Silly show from IFPI

IFPI Norway is a bunch of movie and record-companies (mostly owned by foreigners) who demands that Telenor (one of Norways largest ISPs) close the access to The Pirate Bay. Telenor denies to do this but IFPI is now drawing them to court.

I have problems seeing the logic here. Firstly, why the mixup, ISPs can’t begin to close access to certain sites – isn’t that what their doing in China, Iran etc? Why can’t they close The Pirate Bay via court? Oh they have problems doing that? Why? Because The Pirate Bay don’t break the law? Well why can IFPI demand censor then?

Their demand is like.. What if I called my power company and said that I only wanted power from certain areas because the others aren’t environmental friendly? What do you think they would say?

What am I missing here? I don’t get it.

Once they take TPB, will they censor mininova, bittorrent and the other million tracker sites?

Best bachelor party trick this year

ba3

Yesterday a local newspaper printed a story of an unlucky guy who paraglided from a mountain and had a rather unpleasant landing. They reported that he was lucky to get away from it with only some bruises, “I was scared when I realized I was about to crash, but it gave me a kick when I was up there” he said. He describes it as a nice ride. The newspaper continued to explain that his friends came to his rescue and helped him down and took him to a medical check.

After it was published both on paper and on the net they received messages like “.. incredible that you fell for this story!” etc, and then it became clear : It was a bachelor party where his buddies put him up there and staged an accident! He were never up in a paraglider. They did for it fun and to put him on the spot for a little. His fiancé were shocked when she read about “the accident”.

The newspaper is rather embarrassed to have printed the story before they checked the facts.
