Life on or near Gliese 581 g?

I love exciting findings in space, especially the news about Gliese 581 g which might be habitable for humans. Whats more fun is theories exploding after the news comes out – like the debate about Dr. Ragbir Bhathal.

In December 2009 he discovered a signal from… Gliese! He believe we were hit by a laser. Since Gliese is 20 light years away this means that the ones pointing the laser at us see us as we were 40 years ago. What did we start with around that? Sending massive tv and radio signals out. :) Isn’t it an awsome thought to play with?

On our road to Skynet

I love science fiction and its technology, it triggers my fantasy and it is incredible to see experience that technology has no limits. Like in movies as Terminator, Aliens, I Robot, Bicentennial Man, Running Man, Bladerunner etc, awesome movies, but deep inside I hope we never get there. Though are we on our way there without knowing it or reacting on it?

On My School Account you can check what your children is eating and what they are spending money on at school. You can buy GPS jackets and monitor your child’s movements via Google Maps. This is old news outside Norway but new here, a few days ago they launched a product where you can track your kids via their cell phone, location, messages, contacts and set up their call plan. Is this where we’re going? When I let our kids go somewhere I let them have a cell phone with them so we can call them when dinner is ready, but I’d never use it to track them.

Deep inside I have a fear that something should happen to them but isn’t that a part of life? I feel that the industry is milking money from this fear and more parents jumps on these sollutions. People are even tracking kids via their webcamera.. I know farmers here in Norway who tracks their sheep when their up on the mountains to feed but track children in the same way? I think our kids deserve a better social life.

We make ourself extremely dependent of technology, like Facebook – when Facebook goes down people loose their social life. Its incredible sad. What if the whole Internet would collapse? Like they expect in 2013, what will people do then? Or what will happen if someone can tap into every thing we do on Internet? What will happen when someone makes bad software that attack every unit and service on the net? Like the nuclear power plant in Iran who struggles with a worm these days. Call me silly but I constantly think of Skynet.

Our daughter turned 3 yesterday

My daughter turned 3 yesterday, I can’t believe how time flies! I think she had a great day. We woke her up singing the birthday song for her, giving her presents and a muffin with candle on – its a ritual we’ve had for ages. We let her take her time eating breakfast, no stress or looking at the watch – a lovely morning. In her kindergarten she started the day with carrying the flag and set it up outside, she got a crown and they had chocolate cake. Every kid made drawings for her and they put together a book, I think that will be a nice memory for her.

When she came home her new bed was set up, her first bed without bars. :) I was kind of expecting her to run in and out tonight but she fell asleep like a rock. It was awesome to see her sleep in the new bed, a new part of her life. I really wanted to share a lot of photos of her but as you know I decided once that I’m not going to do that on my blog – my way of showing her my respect of privacy.

It was a big day for her, she has spent a lot of time talking about her age and showing the number of years with her fingers – its fun to see her expression now that she says “3″. Today is toy-day at the kindergarten, which means they are allowed to bring toys – she brought the new Timmy lunchbox and the figures from the series. Have you seen it? Its incredibly cute, Timmy the sheep. Its her favorite these days, along with Shaun the sheep. Shes very fond of sheeps. :)

Prince is coming to Bergen!

I’m so excited, Prince is coming to my hometown Bergen this year! October 18 and the funny part is that its only a few kilometers away. I hope I get the chance to go, its been so long since I last went to his concert. That was in 1988, the LoveSexy tour.

I was only 17 then, I remember a few buddies and I took the train to Oslo and Valle Hovin – it was an awesome concert. I especially remember when he entered the stage in a Corvette, and when he played Purple Rain the purple light colored the rain above us and made a great athmosphere.

I also remember that I fell in love with Sheila E., the drummer. :)

The return home was a nightmare though, we missed the train back and we didn’t have money to spend the night at a hotel. We tried to sleep at the train station but we were kicked out so we found a spot outside to sit through the night. Lets just say it wasn’t a nice experience.

Its kind of fun that he choose Bergen before Oslo. :) Finally.

Its wise to be green within 2013

Our sun is heading towards a large peak in 2013, a century cycle of the perfect storm. Researchers warn us that we might loose power and communication and the black out will last for months.

If this really is the situation its a great opportunity to go green. Not to be hysteric about it but I don’t think it will hurt if every family considered alternative power sources. I dream of solar panel for lighting and gas for heat and kitchen. I think it would be fun to try this and if 2013 will be the year we loose power I’d like to be ready for it. Not only because of the warning but I think it would be an environmentally good solution.

Power is becoming more and more expensive I think and it would be fun to “lure” the billionaires and make them almost obsolete. Wouldn’t that be awesome?

Gas kitchen and ovens are already a great alternative, its not that expensive. Whats tricky is the solar cells, its a bit expensive and it needs a good infrastructure to be useful.

With new technology it is possible to take usage of 60 to 80 percent of the sunlight, but the technology isn’t ready yet for us to buy.

How much watt do we need? Would 200 watt do it?

The big question is will the charged batteries be protected by a large solar storm?

Autumn cleaning my blog

Autumn is making it selves more obvious these day, today only we’ve had 12mm rain. Its no comfort though that a normal September gives us 283mm (11.14 inches). September 2009 we had 361mm… Oh well. The scary part is that they’ve for-casted snow this Saturday, above 1000 meters though.

A new Arras Theme version were released the other day so I used a few hours on upgrading, then I tidied up the blog a bit. How do you think it looks? I’m experimenting with a different view on the front page showing excerpts instead of full blog posts.

As usual theres always some finetuning after a theme upgrade, I had to disable the Fancybox plugin which is displaying images in a better way, I had to disable it because of jquery and some usage conflict in Arras. I’ll try to find a similar plugin.
